Mapledurham at War: 16-17 April

After an extremely wet and muddy Friday and Saturday, Sunday was gloriously sunny, drying out some of the worst areas and drawing in lots of public. Our Home Guard & L.D.V., and 1940's Police displays were located on the field opposite Mapledurham House, where members of the group gave village defence briefings and weapons talks.

Event Gallery

Westbury Transport & Vintage Gathering: 23-24 April

A few members of the Group attended as walking re-enactors, whilst others were there as part of another group. As the event name suggests, most of the displays consisted of vintage vehicles, small steam-driven machinery, and military vehicles and guns.

Event Gallery

Fortress Wales, Caldicot Castle & Country Park: 1-2 May

This was the first year that we have attended this event, so several members attended as walking re-enactors. It is a very impressive multi-period event spanning the dark ages, medieval, U.S. revolutionary war, Napoleonic, W.W.I, W.W.II, and later conflicts.

Event Gallery

Selwood Steam & Vintage: 28-30 May

Several members of the Group attended, putting up several static displays. Members of the public were also treated to some of the team giving the sentry box a facelift!

Pendennis at War, Pendennis Castle: 31 May - 2 June

Four members attended this new event at Pendennis Castle. Although small there were British and German static displays, and demonstrations from the A.R.P. warden, motorcycle training exercises, and firing of three of the castle guns. The Spitfire Sisters provided the 1940's music, while dance instructors were on hand to encourage everyone to try the dances of the era.

D-Day Revival, Southwick, Hampshire: 11-12 June

Nine members of the group attended this fantastic event where the whole village joined in. Windows were decorated with tape to protect against shattering from air raids, villagers dressed in period costume and streets were devoid of modern vehicles during the event. Plenty of period vehicles, static displays, presentations and music to keep visitors entertained. There were also trips to Southwick House in vintage buses to see the D-Day Map Room.

Home Guard Weekend, Midsomer Norton Railway Station: 18-19 June

We were honoured to be asked to support this event where the last surviving member of the Midsomer Norton Home Guard, Charlie Britten, unveiled a temporary plaque detailing the names of the Midsomer Norton Home Guard. A good turnout by the Group with the 1940's Home, Sentry Box and UXB on display. The Home Guard challenged visitors, asking them to produce their I.D. cards. We even made the front page of the local paper, The Somerset Guardian!

Armed Forces Day, Swindon: 25 June

A good turnout with five static Home Guard and Home Front displays. There were plenty of arena displays, an assault course and a street of charity and military associsation stalls. The day started with blue skies and the Royal British Legion Jump Team but unfortunately ended rather abruptly mid-afternoon when heavy rain set in.

Wiltshire Armed Forces & Veterans Weekend, Trowbridge: 25-26 June

Although our primary commitment was to the Swindon event, a few members of the group attended the Trowbridge event. Their numbers were swelled on the Sunday with several members attending as walking re-enactors.

Village Fete, Walton-in-Gordano: 16 July

Six members of the Group supported our third year at this traditional village event. We set up a Home Guard and Home Front display, and demonstrated the disposal of an unexploded bomb. Although only half a day, it's a wonderful event with traditional activities such as tug-of-war, dog show, skittles with the alley being set up amongst hay bales, traders and fundraising stalls.

Wiltshire Home Guard Gallery

Lacock at War: 20-21 August

One of the regular events that the Group attends. We set up a few static displays, while several members of the Group attended as walking re-enactors.

The Way We Were Weekend, Cranmore: 27-29 August

Another of our regular events at a steam railway setting. We set up static displays and interacted with the public on the train journeys.

Lupton House 1940's Weekend, Brixham: 3-4 September

A very wet weekend for this event. Unfortunately we were unable to set up our static display due to ill health but a few members of the Group were able to attend as walking

Blunsdon at War, Swindon & Cricklade Railway: 10-11 September

A weekend of contrasting weather for this regular event - a wet Saturday was followed by a dry Sunday. We had several static displays set up throughout the event, and did our bomb disposal demonstration each day.

1940's Weekend, Avon Valley Railway: 24-25 September

The penultimate event of the session regularly attended by several members of the group, the 1940's weekend at the Avon Valley Railway.

Vintage Christmas, Bovington Tank Museum: 3-4 December

16 members of the Group registered to attend this regular event at Bovington, our final event of the year. We set up ten table-top displays over the weeknd, five of them making their first appearance, and did three scheduled presentations each day.
